Happy International Women’s Day!
This year’s theme, DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality, is central to AWIEF’s passion and purpose.
Through our Digital Skills Programme, in partnership with GIZ and Amazon Web Services (AWS), we gave 60 young unemployed and underemployed women a fighting chance to become confident, job-ready AWS Cloud Practitioners in mere months rather than years.
With less than 10 years to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we find ourselves still very far away from closing the huge gender digital divide. We therefore need to demystify the notion that women are not as capable for leadership in technology. We must all work to increase the aspiration among young women to aim for senior technology positions.
As coding is an essential language for many 21st-century jobs, it is the perfect starting point for women and girls to grow their careers in tech.
Together, let’s power on to close the digital gender gap!
